Completed Maintenance and Repair of Towers of Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge

Date: 2017 – October
Location: Istanbul

We have completed several applications for the corrosion protection of the UK-origin post tensioning bars at the towers of Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge within the scope of the 1st year maintenance and repair works.  Foundation laid in May 2013 and opened to traffic in August 2016, 59m-wide Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge is the widest and with its 322m-high towers is the highest among cable-stayed bridges and second highest among all bridge types in the world.

After our controls, we have discovered that tips of post tensioning bars used for fixing the upper steel structure were corroded due to adverse weather conditions.  For this reason, we have removed protective caps of each post tensioning bar and applied surface cleaning.  We then applied special protective materials to the surfaces of the bars, installed the protective caps and siliconized for weather sealing.
