Anchor Bars

Natural ground conditions generally offer sufficient compressive strength but tensile and shear strengths are low.  Hence, anchor bars are used to carry tensile loads and shear loads of the ground.

Anchorages also transmit the loads to the ground in pretensioned structures.  Their most important functions are to prevent deformations on the ground due to loads and to transmit tension loads to the root area which transmits the loads to stable ground and ensure safety.

Full threads are manufactured via hot working.  For this reason, no additional threading is required.

Being fully threaded has many application advantages;

  • The bars can be cut to length at site prior to application
  • Additional anchorages can be attached using couplings
  • Anchorages can be bent at a desired section to ensure using both screw heads
  • Anchor bars increase adhesion of the injected grout

Applications

  • Rock Bolts
  • Micropiles
  • Stabilization of fillers and slopes
  • Tunnel and shaft piles

There are different types of anchor bars based on the application;

Pre-Injected Anchor Bars

Pre-injected anchor bars are made up of a full continuous threaded bar protected by corrugated sheet in high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and by grout injection along the whole bar.

Corrugated shape of the high-density polyethylene (HDPE) sheet allows distribution of the tensile force to the injected grout and then to the ground. The size of the thread varies depending on the threaded bar used.

The lower part of the bar is encased and protected by a heat-shrink cap. The head of the bar is made up of heat shrink protection, a section of free bar (around 20 cm), a nut and a perforated bearing plate.

Self-Drilling Anchor Bars

These are fully threaded hollow bars.  This is a system that ensures maximum flexibility in construction and decreases installation time.  Using this product covers drilling, locating the injection bar and ensuring structural strength at the ground.

This material is used for nailing, anchoring and micropiling, in earth or in rocks. The bars are produced using plastic deformation, creating the full ISO 10208 thread on the outer surface of a pipe.
