Sheet & Plate Magnets

Sheet & Plate magnets developed as an alternative to unsafe vacuum systems and plate grabbing devices. Magnetic lifting systems increase the safty of the operations in the

Number and sizes of the magnets in the system are determined based on the size of plate to be lifted.  While electro permanent or permanent magnets can be used for single plate lifting operations, for multiple plate lifting operations only electro magnets can be used as electro permanent magnets, due to their structures, must have surface contact and can form limited magnetic fields.  For this reason, they are not safe for lifting multiple plates.

Minimum plate thickness should be 5mm as special systems need to be designed for thinner plates.  As the plate thickness decreases, number of magnets in the system increases and the magnets become broader.  Contrary to vacuum systems, magnetic systems can safely lift even the plates with surface imperfections.

Permanent magnet systems provide maximum safety as they do not drop the load even in case of a power failure.  These systems are widely used in plasma cutting systems as they allow feeding the system while collecting the cut plates on the benchtop.

Especially in application that require speed, these systems really create difference.  They are commonly preferred by businesses like shipyards which often use plates in production.

Similar to profile lifting applications, plate lifting applications frequently utilize telescopic beams too.  Telescopic beams are widely used in applications where both smaller and heavier plates and larger and thinner plates need to be lifted.  Telescopic beams are costlier solutions compared to fixed beams and they require maintenance.  On the other hand, they can decrease the number of magnets used in the application and help use the factory site more efficiently.

Things to Consider When Choosing Sheet-Plate Magnets

  • Application details (plate cutting, loading and unloading, stockpiling, laser cutting, etc.),
  • Minimum and maximum sizes of plates,
  • Minimum and maximum thickness plates,
  • Crane lifting capacity and number of crane carriages,
  • Number of plates to be lifted at once,
